The story of Ironstone is fascinating, and there are various excellent reference books which contain invaluable information for collectors.  Here are some of the books we've enjoyed reading.

Goddenís Guide to Ironstone Stone & Granite Wares - Geoffrey Godden.
A lavishly-illustrated and wide-ranging book, published in 1999. Its 400 pages detail the history of ironstone and list some 350 British manufacturers. There are hundreds of photos and illustrations of makersí marks. If you love ironstone, you simply must have this book.
Encyclopaedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks - Geoffrey Godden.
This is the best all-round source book for British ceramic marks. Originally published in 1964, itís been reprinted many times. It lists companies in alphabetical order, along with illustrations of marks, and the periods for which each mark was used.  Known as the "Bible" in the British antique trade.
Goddenís Guide to Masonís China and the Ironstone Wares - Geoffrey Godden.
Published in 1980, this book was an updated and expanded version of Goddenís 1971 book "Illustrated Guide to Masonís Patent Ironstone China". Now somewhat superceded by his 1999 book, but still a good book to have by your side.

Mason Porcelain & Ironstone 1793-1853 - Reginald Haggar & Elizabeth Adams.
This 1977 book details the origins of the Mason business, and follows the firmís history through to its demise in the 1850s. Fascinating insights into the unorthodox marketing methods and the factory conditions. Worth buying if you can find a used copy.

Masonís. The First 200 Years - Gaye Blake Roberts.
This 1996 softback book is by the Curator of the Wedgwood Museum (Waterford Wedgwood now own the Mason brand). Itís a superbly colourful guide to the Masonís Ironstone and porcelain wares. Well worth buying just for the outstanding photos!
