Mason's Patent Ironstone China dinner plate,
10.3" diameter, c1813-1829

This antique English ironstone plate was made by the renowned Mason's factory.  It's decorated in blues and reds with fairly extensive gilding.  It is in good condition, with no chips, cracks or restoration, but there is some rubbing to the gilding.  The printed Mason's Patent Ironstone mark identifies this plate as being made between 1813 and 1829.

The mark, printed in underglaze brown, has the "jewelled curved crown" device, which is attributed to the GM & CJ Mason factory during the period 1813-1829.  There's also a retailer's mark reading "J Kerr, Dublin".

This close-up shows very slight rubbing of the gilding, which is characteristic of antique pottery of this age.  There are 3 small imperfections in the glaze (probably stilt marks from firing); 2 of these fall in the dark areas of the pattern, but the third was in the undecorated area and the gilder thoughtfully drew a little leaf over it!
